ML4Q Technology Day 2021
This seminar aims to bring together ML4Q’s early career scientists with experts from the corporate world. In the first event, career and development opportunities of scientists coming from academia will be discussed. Speakers representing different industrial players varying in size and product segment will shed some light on current developments in quantum computing and other technologies. In their presentations, they will show which qualifications and expertise are companies looking for in these special times where investments in quantum computing architectures are thriving and the need for qualified scientists and engineers have never been so high. The presentations will be complemented by mingling and networking sessions with virtual coffee and beer.
Date and time: June 16 and 17, 2 pm – 6 pm (online on MeetAnyway)
Target audience: This event is primarily aimed at PhD students and postdocs associated with ML4Q, but of course ML4Q PIs as well as non-ML4Q members, in particular from the participating cluster institutions, are welcome as well. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, 2 pm – 4 pm
Functional Materials and Ion-trapped QC – with Elmos and eleQtron
Elmos develops, produces and markets semiconductors and sensors, primarily for use in the automotive industry. Our components communicate, measure, regulate and control safety, comfort, powertrain and network functions. For over 30 years, Elmos innovations have been bringing new functions to life and making mobility worldwide safer, more comfortable and more energy efficient.
eleQtron develops and operates quantum computers. Our next-generation computing machines will be able to solve problems in chemistry, life sciences, logistics and finance, among others, that even the best conventional supercomputers cannot crack. To do this, we compute with the quantum states of atoms (qubits), which are excellently shielded from interference. The groundbreaking concept we have developed, called MAGIC, allows these qubits to be controlled reliably and precisely using established, inexpensive and miniaturizable high-frequency technology.

Quantum Communication – with Fraunhofer ILT and ID Quantique
Fraunhofer ILT is developing new technologies and devices that take advantage of fundamental quantum physical properties. Together with top German and international researchers, Fraunhofer ILT scientists are developing a broad portfolio of systems and processes for quantum technologies. In addition to lasers and fiber modules, these include parametric photon sources and frequency converters, integrated optical components and packaging processes.
ID Quantique is the world leader in quantum-safe crypto solutions, designed to protect data for the long-term future. The company provides quantum-safe network encryption, secure quantum key generation and quantum key distribution solutions and services to the financial industry, enterprises and government organisations globally. IDQ also commercializes a quantum random number generator, which is the reference in the security, simulation and gaming industries. Additionally, IDQ is a leading provider of optical instrumentation products, most notably photon counters and related electronics. The company’s innovative photonic solutions are used in both commercial and research applications.

Quantum for Energy – with E.ON and Pasqal
E.ON Digital Technology (EDT) manages and implements with around 1,300 employees the digital transformation of E.ON. The team of Antoine Browaeys and Thierry Lahaye at the Institut d’Optique (IOGS, CNRS) has been demonstrating for several years now the simulation of many-body problems intractable for classical High Performance Computers. How? With a Programmable Quantum Simulator made out of arrays of neutral atoms that they started building as early as 2011. At PASQAL, we build on this decade of expertise and numerous achievements in the engineering of lasers, vacuum systems and detection systems, to manufacture Quantum Information Processors that tackle complex issues, from fundamental science to grand challenges among others in the Energy sector.

Quantum Computing Co-Design – with Rigetti and Parity QC
Rigetti Computing is an integrated systems company. We build quantum computers and the superconducting quantum processors that power them. Through our Quantum Cloud Services (QCS) platform, our machines can be integrated into any public, private or hybrid cloud.
ParityQC develops blueprints for quantum computers to solve optimization problems. The Parity Quantum Computing architecture delivers the instruction set and layout for quantum chips, be it digital or analog. We believe that the co-development of hardware design and quantum algorithms facilitates the advantage of a perfectly aligned quantum computer for optimization problems. The ParityQC architecture is platform- and method agnostic with fundamental advantages for each individual platform and method. In particular with its reduced complexity it makes hardware platforms highly scalable. ParityQC is happy to support any research groups or companies in trying out the ParityQC architecture and providing them with additional information on how to implement it.
