Looking Back: Physics Project Days 2024 in Aachen
Video: Highlights from the PPT Aachen 2024
From August 28 to 31, 2024, the first Physics Project Days (PPT) took place in Aachen! Over the course of four days, 29 female students spent time at RWTH Aachen University.
This year, participants could choose from eight exciting projects focused on current topics in physics. The projects covered a wide range of fields, including astroparticle physics, quantum mechanics, electronics, artificial intelligence, and theoretical cosmology. In small groups of two to four, the students explored these topics under the guidance of researchers from the respective fields. They conducted experiments, wrote code, and analyzed data independently. At the end of the project phase, they presented their results in a closing colloquium, which was also open to family and friends.
The project work was complemented by additional activities, including a trip to the Forschungszentrum Jülich, a guest lecture by Dr. Valeria Botta, and two lab tours at RWTH’s Physics Center. Information about studying physics was provided in a Study Q&A session with Dr. Beate Roth. Throughout the event, all project supervisors and organizers were available to answer questions and shared insights about their own academic paths and current work.
Following the positive feedback from both participants and mentors, plans are underway to hold the Physics Project Days in Aachen again next year. Registration is expected to open in April 2025.
