Gláucia Murta Appointed Assistant Professor at TU Wien

ML4Q is delighted to share the news that Dr. Gláucia Murta, a former senior postdoctoral researcher at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and a principal investigator (PI) within ML4Q, has been appointed as an assistant professor at TU Wien, effective June 17, 2024.

Gláucia holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate in physics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, complemented by a sandwich doctorate at the Quantum Information Center in Gdańsk (KCIK), Poland. She further expanded her research experience as a postdoctoral fellow at QuTech, Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands.

In 2019, Gláucia joined ML4Q as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Dagmar Bruß. As a principal investigator, she led projects and supervised students, focusing on the design of novel protocols for cryptographic tasks. Her research explored how the fundamental aspects of Bell nonlocality can be harnessed for quantum cryptography, aiming to develop protocols resilient to hacking. Her broader interests included multipartite quantum correlations and high-dimensional systems, which hold the potential to overcome the limitations of conventional bipartite qubit systems.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Gláucia received the ML4Q Young Investigators Award in 2023. Reflecting on the award, she shared: “[…] the funds gave me freedom to attend conferences and meetings that I strategically chose to boost my independence and increase the chances of getting a permanent position (which was successful).”

Beyond academics, Gláucia is passionate about science communication and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and healthy environment within academia. She recently co-launched, the Portuguese-language podcast “O Q Quântico”, which is available on the ML4Q website.

We warmly congratulate Gláucia on her appointment and wish her every success in her new role at TU Wien!
