ML4Q once again featured in the podcast of the Clusters of Excellence
On September 1, 2021, the first episode of the podcast of Germany’s Clusters of Excellence was released: “Exzellent erklärt (excellenty explained) – cutting-edge research for all”. The podcast on current scientific topics reflects the research diversity of the Clusters of Excellence: from African studies to quantum physics. In each episode, listeners can expect insights into the interdisciplinary work of a research network. The scientists talk to podcaster Larissa Vassilian about how they want to find scientifically sound answers to societally relevant topics.
ML4Q was featured for the first time in March 2022 as Larissa Vassilian talked to ML4Q members, Sebastian Diehl and Michael Köhl. They explained some quantum mechanical phenomena, like superposition and entanglement, providing insight into the slightly different views of the theorist as opposed to the experimentalist. They shed some light on their work in the ML4Q cluster in order to help understand and create network architectures for quantum computers.
On May 1, 2025, another episode with ML4Q member, Tommaso Calarco, was published. The episode sheds light on the challenges in the practical implementation of quantum computers, the role of interdisciplinary networks such as the Cluster of Excellence ML4Q and the strategic importance of European funding in the global race for innovation.
About the podcast
Ten science communicators from various clusters worked together for several months to develop the concept for the new podcast series. “We want to make cutting-edge research visible and tangible for everyone,” explains Doreen Böttcher, responsible for public relations at the Cluster of Excellence “Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop” (CeTI) at the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) and a member of the project team for the new science podcast. The project team’s common goal: to inform a broad public about the topics and working methods of the research it funds.
