Quanteen Day – On Campus Edition Takes Place in Aachen
Students from Düsseldorf, Brühl, and across North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) took trains on the first morning of their spring break to attend the special Quanteen Day – On Campus Edition in Aachen.
The program began with a keynote that introduced participants to the fascinating world of quantum physics, with a focus on the principles behind quantum information. Following the talk, students engaged in hands-on experiments led by the team from SCIphyLAB, the physics school laboratory at RWTH Aachen University.
These experiments were designed to give students a practical understanding of complex quantum phenomena such as wave-particle duality and quantum entanglement—concepts that defy everyday “classical” intuition. Under the guidance of experienced tutors, students were tasked with setting up experiments and analyzing their outcomes.
After a lunch break in the mensa, participants joined guided tours of the lab facilities, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the daily lives of scientists. They learned how researchers test theories and develop cutting-edge technologies using instruments—some of which are custom-built in the lab.
This special edition of Quanteen Day marks the anniversary year Quantum2025, an initiative organized by the German Physical Society in celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). The event also ties into the spirit of World Quantum Day the 14th of April, first celebrated in 2022.
