Quantum, Atoms, Molecules, and Light: Bonn Hosts 1,800 International Researchers
From March 9 to 14, 2025, the University of Bonn will welcome around 1,800 physicists from around the world for the Spring Meeting and 88th Annual Meeting of the German Physical Society (DPG). The conference will focus on the latest developments in atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, and photonics.
With over 1,400 scientific presentations, the conference will showcase cutting-edge research on quantum phenomena and their applications. Notable highlights include:
🔹 Ghana-Germany Quantum Connect Symposium (March 11): A platform for scientific exchange between Ghanaian and German researchers, particularly in quantum science and climate research.
🔹 Award Symposium (March 13): Talks by distinguished physicists, including Reinhard Werner (Max Planck Medal), Klaus Blaum (Stern-Gerlach Medal), and Michael Fleischhauer (Herbert Walther Award).
🔹 Public Lectures:
-
- Lise-Meitner-Lecture (March 11, 4:00 PM) – Anne L’Huillier, Nobel Laureate, on attosecond light pulses.
- Public Evening Lecture (March 12, 8:00 PM) – Markus Aspelmeyer on quantum physics and gravity. (Link to Youtube stream: https://www.youtube.com/@NonlinearQuantumOpticsGroup/streams)
- Max-von-Laue-Lecture (March 13, 8:00 PM) – Karen Hallberg on nuclear threats and emerging technologies. (Link to Youtube stream: https://www.youtube.com/@NonlinearQuantumOpticsGroup/streams)
Students and young researchers can network at events such as the Women-in-Physics Chat (March 13) and a social evening exploring Bonn’s pub culture (March 11).
