Alex Altland and Tommaso Calarco were guests in WDR5 Quarks – Wissenschaft und mehr on March 30 where they explained the principle of quantum computer and elaborated on current challenges in research and development. In a quite straight-forward statement (00:25 onward), Tommaso emphasizes the importance of striking the balance between convincing the public of the importance of ongoing research in such a future technology and avoiding making empty promises for future applications.

The interview (starting from 49:55)  which also included Andreas Wallraff (ETH Zürich) was made by WDR Quarks journalist Sophie Stigler who won this year’s Journalistenpreis Informatik acknowledging her high-quality reporting on information technology topics.
